The Mazurka in A flat major, Op. 59 No. 2 provides a rare opportunity to compare a sketch of the composition with the autograph, which Chopin was not sufficiently pleased with and ultimately rejected. Both sources, documenting the process of the mazurkas composition, have been published in the eleventh volume of the series Works by Chopin. Facsimile Edition. The autographs are held in the Bibliotheque musicale de lOpéra in Paris under the joint catalogue number Res. 50 (1). This publication is the first facsimile edition of the manuscripts of the Mazurka in A flat, Op. 59 No. 2. It is accompanied by a source commentary by Professor Jim Samson.
