Last year, 2018, was marked by the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Musicological Section in the Polish Composers' Union. This is the reason behind a seperate section in Rocznik, featuring articles by Beata Bolesławska-Lewandowska and Iwona Lindstedt devoted to the history of the Section and its most important activities over the years. However, the main theme of current volume is The past in music – music and tradition. This refers to analyses by a varied group of ten authors, discussions relating on the one hand to various forms of the presence of musicof the past in the culture of all musical periods, and on the other – to research into the relations between music and tradition represented by various musical genres, centres, regions or social groups. The Varia section of this issue contains two articles dealing with research into the history of music conducted in Poland today. And the volume ends with Magdalena Tomsińska’s text providing additions and corrections to her article, published in 2012, on the Gdańsk lute tabulaturę from the early seventeenth cantury.
