The theme of the present volume is associated with the 50th Musicological Conference of the Polish Composers Union, “Music of Women. Women in Music”, which was held on 9–11 September 2021 at the Faculty of Art (Institute of Music), University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. The selected conference papers, together with articles written independently of the event, make up a collection of research explorations revealing various aspects of women’s participation in broadly defined musical culture, and presenting new problems, new sources and new interpretations. Among the protagonists of the volume we find Wanda Landowska, Nadia Boulanger, Lidia Zielińska, Hanna Kulenty, Zofia Lissa, Katarzyna Kwiecień-Długosz, as well as many other, still insufficiently known women composers, musicians and organisers of musical life.
