The song We Have Each Other was born in a different reality, as a birthday gift for my wife Agnieszka, when no one could yet imagine what the world would be like after 24th February 2022.
It was Agnieszka who came up with the idea of creating a new version of this piece and recording it with multiple artists by way of support for the Ukrainian nation. Carmell’s text proved universal enough to require only some minor changes. I began to arrange the song for full symphony orchestra supported by a rhythm section. Thanks to the kind intercession of Małgorzata Małaszko-Stasiewicz, Editor-in-Chief of Polish Radio Channel Two, we have been able to invite the Polish Radio Orchestra and Choir as well as outstanding sound engineer Leszek Kamiński to record the composition. Musicians of my own orchestra as well as more than sixty leading singers responded to my invitation. These musicians, who normally perform as acclaimed soloists, this time joined forces to sing in one chorus, forming a unique line-up that existed only for this one brief moment.
Regardless of what musical worlds we come from, we all came together in order for our voices to become more audible, with the aim of showing our unity with the Ukrainians and offering them our support in the face of the enormous injustice and pain they have suffered. Though music cannot change the world, I strongly believe that by sharing what best we have we may do some good.
