World Premiere of Paweł Łukaszewski"s Symphony III, "Symphony of Angels" in Riga
2012-08-31
On August 28 in St. Peter’s Church, Riga, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and the National Choir of Latvia gained an unusually warm reception from the public for the premiere of Paweł Łukaszewski’s Symphony III. A large audience, gathered at the concert organised as part of the 15th International Festival of Sacred Music, awarded the performers and the composer with a flood of applause. Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne was represented by PWM President Adam Radzikowski and Director of the Orchestral Materials Library Teresa Kozak. The two-movement Symphony was written under the auspices of the City of Warsaw Scholarship in 2010. "The choice of texts,” says the composer, “was preceded by a laborious exploration and study of angelogical literature and old apocryphal books. While working on it I contacted Professor Sylwester Dworacki of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, who made a translation of Part II of the Book of Enoch (in the original language of Ethiopia) into Latin."
