Alban Berg. The Man and works from his youth. From solo songs to orchestral works
This book is the first part of a planned and partially realised project, to describe the life and work of Alban Berg. This publication aims to document the conposer's first and early works (i.e. from the years 1900-1913). Importantly, Andrzej Chłopecki does not stop with showing selected examples of music from this period. In each chapter he also describes the composer's life, reveals details concerning his state of mind and personality, shows him in relation to the environment in which he lived. In the author's opinion, ''the chronology of Alban Berg's work is closely related to the chronology of his life (...). Life becomes inseparable from context of creativity, his creativity an inseparable component of his life.'' Such an integral description of Berg's music in the context of the path of his life is not common and in this respect Andrzej Chłopecki's book is a exceptional publication. In addition, against the rich Berg bibliography this concentration on the composer's life and work from his youth is outstanding.
