Deus in nomine tuo
Concerto a 4 basso solo, doi violini e fagotto con basso continuo
Marcin Mielczewski is one of the outstanding Polish composers of the first half of the seventeenth century. He was a member of the Chapel Royal and the kapellmeister to Prince Ferdinand, the Kings brother. He lived in Warsaw where he died in 1651. His works have been preserved in manuscript, except the double canon published in 1643 in Venice, in Xenia Apollinea, an appendix to the treatise Cribrum Musicum by Marco Scacchi, and the present concerto which was printed in Berlin in 1659 in Havemanns collection Erster Theil Geistlicher Concerten, together with compositions by Monteverdi, A. Grandi, F. Capella and others. In Havemanns collection the concerto consists of six parts: Violino primo, Violino secundo, Fagotto, Violono, Basso voce (or Basso solo) and Basso continuo. The parts of violin and basso continuo are identical, so in the present edition only the figured bass has been marked together with its modern realization. [Adolf Chybiński]
