This is undoubtedly a valuable publication for the Polish market. To date, no writer has ever created a book that describes the jazz community of Gdynia, Gdansk and Sopot at length. Stanisław Danielewicz was correspondent for the New Musical Express for Eastern Europe, a reviewer for Dziennik Bałtycki, the author of articles in magazines such as Jazz, Jazz Forum, Jazz Magazine and others didecated to this subject. In his new book, Jazzowisko Trójmiasta, the author takes on the challenge to turn inside out all of the studies available in Poland on the history of jazz in terms of their conformity with reality, compliance with history, which grew in parallel with the actions of many people, not just the few that are commonly mentioned in all the previous studies. Although this publication is the result of years of research, its brilliant way of communicating differs from the typical monotony of scientific and specialized studies. This is not only a chronological story of the participants of Jazzowisko, but in its own way a kind of amazing fabric. The author has intricately entwined it with historical facts and press reviews of records, interviews with musicians, reports from concerts at clubs and during festivals. The richness and diversity of the sources cited allow the reader to save time on paging through a large number of both music and local newspapers about jazz in the Tricity area from 1945 to today. One of the books huges assets are photos of Jazzowisko participants, articles cited in the text, and even concert programmes and posters. An extensive table of contents and index of names allows the reader to quickly locate necessary information.
