Adagio élégiaque
Op. 5 for Violin and Piano
Adagio élégiaque, Op. 5, is one of the earliest compositions by Henryk Wieniawski. The work was composed during the sixteen year old's grand Russian tour as an already famous virtuoso. In view of its peculiar pathos and prevailing lyricism, it can be regarded as a piece of salon music. It is hoped that a new edition - the first for many eyars - of this less popular composition by Henryk Wieniawski will catch the attention of violinists and violin teachers. I especially recommend it to students wishing to develop the expressive, tonal aspects of their playing as well as octave and arpeggiated chord techniques.
