About PWM
Established in 1945, Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne (PWM), has already been specialising in publishing scores and books about classical music, jazz, and now, more frequently, film music. PWM’s materials, marked with a characteristic yellow logo, are used by the youngest students of the musical arts, renowned artists, orchestras, lecturers and many music lovers alike. The world’s first critical-source edition of the complete works of Fryderyk Chopin edited by Prof. Jan Ekier and the twelve-volume Encyclopedia of Music enjoy particular acclaim.
Pieces from PWM’s catalogue are to be found at the largest music festivals in Poland and also appear on stages abroad. From recent international performances it is worth mentioning Roman Maciejewski’s „Missa pro defunctis” in London, Roman Statkowski’s opera „Maria” at the Wexford opera festival, Elżbieta Sikora’s opera „Madame Curie” in Paris and „What is the Word” by Agata Zubel in New York. One side of PWM’s activity is to sell published works and publications of an educational and popular character, and another aspect is to supply materials for orchestral concerts and stage performances. Works by Witold Lutosławski, Karol Szymanowski, Wojciech Kilar, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Tadeusz Baird and Grażyna Bacewicz enjoy particular popularity and interest among performers.
PWM is an agent for many foreign publishers including Schott Music, Boosey & Hawkes, Edition Peters, Universal Edition Wien and Music Sales. A specialist quarterly magazine is published in Polish („Kwarta”) and in English („Quarta”).
The Head Office is located in Cracow and the Library of Orchestral Materials is in PWM’s Warsaw Branch.
