AlineaDuo
for saxophone and piano
The work Alinea was originally composed by Hanna Kulenty for clarinet, piano and orchestra. Magdalena Duś and I arranged it for a duet of saxophone and piano, and the composer gave this version the title AlineaDuo.
In the original version of the work, Hanna Kulenty used clarinet in B flat and basset horn in particular sections. In our arrangement, we decided to retain the composer’s idea of switching the solo instrument during the course of the work, scoring the principal part for soprano and alto saxophone. In terms of the sound, this lent the composition a new, unique dimension, which we hope enriches the original conception of the work in an interesting way.
