Adam Makowicz - the hero of a new book published in the Ludzie Świata Muzyki (People of the World of Music) series - reveals his tumultuous biography in a flowing conversation led by his manager, Marek Strasz. This incredibly motivating book proves that if you really want something, you can overcome even the greatest obstacles. Adam Makowicz speaks of it thus: I always knew what I wanted. I always fought with everyone around me who thought that there were more important things to do. I was of the opinion that there was one thing that was most important, and that was music and working on music. And I organised everything to that end. Makowicz became a jazz pianist in spite of parents, teachers and those for whom jazz was an unwanted music performed by people on the margins, even a cacophony, which could cause mannerisms, and even have negative effects on mental health. He was not discouraged by the fact that no one taught jazz then, and he did not have any professional material. An advantage of the book ''Playing first piano...'' is the fact that contained within its story about the origins and development of jazz is a unique account by an eyewitness and participant in these events, not just a collection of dry facts. Adam Makowicz answers questions related to his domestic and foreign performances in a chatty style. He also mentions collaboration with different artists, including Leszek Możdżer, Andrzej Kurylewicz, Zbigniew Namysłowski, and Wojciech Młynarski. A major plus for this publication is the fact it has been enriched with coomentaries by people who know Makowicz. These include for example: Urszula Dudziak, Michał Urbaniak, Piotr Paleczny and Janusz Muniak.
