Krzyki
for string orchestra
Krzyki for string orchestra is another of Mykietyns ''paradoxical'' works. The composer here ignores both the romantic tradition of a balanced string sound, rooted in continuity and softness, as well as the fact that contemporary audiences are accustomed to the impressionist climate of most works for string orchestra. Krzyki is a rather small but expressive piece, expressionistic in nature, a study of gestures and mental states. Mykietyn - analogous to Gustav Mahler - builds in his music world, a world full of gems and garbage at the same time, the sublime and the mundane, in essence paradoxical. At the same time the composer demands we think about the eternal rub of that which belongs to the sphere of nature with that which belongs to the sphere of culture, showing the age-old contrast between the sacred and the profane.
