Leśmian's Couplets
for Baritone and Piano
This composition is a cycle of songs to poems by Bolesław Leśmian: ‘Death-Maids’, ‘The Gorilla’, ‘Round the Flower Garden’, ‘The Snake’ and ‘The Invisible’. All the texts are in couplets, the significance of which seems deeper than merely structural. Here, ambiguity and alternation are a theme in themselves.
