Quasi Kwazi III
for Clarinet Solo
Quasi Kwazi I, II and III for solo clarinet is a cycle of three compositions written in 1994–98, each of which is treated as an autonomous work. Quasi Kwazi was written in 1994 during the Internationale Akademie für Neue Komposition in Schwaz, Austria, where it was first performed by the composer. Quasi Kwazi II and Quasi Kwazi III were composed for Wojciech Komsta, who performed them during the first two editions of the Krzysztof Penderecki International Chamber Music Competition in Cracow (1997 and 1998). The cycle is also a fixture in the repertoire of the Spanish clarinettist Josep Sancho, winner of the Grand Prix in the Penderecki Competition in 1999. The Quasi Kwazi cycle has been performed in Poland, Germany, Austria, Spain, Australia and the US, and it has been broadcast on Andrew Ford’s ABC Music Show on Australian Radio in a performance by David Bull. All the works have also been released on CD by ZPR Records and Cracow Institute of Art.
