Radiating Brightness Op. 37
Little Mystery for Soprano and String Orchestra
Mikołaj Górecki's latest composition was commissioned by Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne. It is a four-piece work for string orchestra and solo voice (soprano). In the consecutive movememnts of the work there are fragments of poetry by Czesław Miłosz: in the first movement there are words from the verse of „A jeżeli”,, the second movement is purely instrumental, in the third movement – a fragment of the poem „Ogrodnik” and the culminating final movement - the poem „Jasnośc promieniste”.
The character of the work is very serene, optimistic, contemplative. The work stylistically belongs to the orbit of "neo-romanticism" and its harmony refers in places to the American cinema style of the 1930s.
