Scherzo-Tarantelle Op. 16
Transcription for Solo Violin and Chamber Ensemble
Scherzo-Tarantelle in G minor Op. 16 was composed in 1855 and dedicated to Lambert Massart by his barely twenty-year-old pupil. Originally written for violin and piano, the work acquires new, so far unknown, qualities i its transcription by Arnold Rezler for solo violin and chamber ensemble (four violins and cello). The lustre of instrumentation and its new harmonies give the impression of hearing an original composition rather tat its arrangement. It is impossible to notice here the interference of another musician. The additional value of the arrangement is the possibility of using the work in school teaching: coopting a cellist into the violin class will enable the young the young soloist to associate not only with pianist-accompanists ut also with an ensemble of fellow musicians able to provide orchestral colours.
