Sketches from the late Romantism Era
Essays
The core of the book is formed by a discussion of Mahler's symphonies in the chronological order of their composition. Wagnerian subject matter is touched upon in four sketches, while Bruckner's symphony writing is just skimmed. Mahler is followed by a brief treatment of Schönberg. A short silhoutte of Skryabin - closing the book - constitutes, as it were, a renewed question about the paramount - spiritual and metaphysical - sense of music. [Bohdan Pociej]
