...It is the most chamber of all my quartets, performed con sordino from the beginning to the end. This one-movement piece consists of twelve segments, in which a fixed leitmotiv, with which the whole piece has started, appears. Only in one section - the ninth - do all the instruments play simultaneously. In the remaining segments their number diminishes; for example, in the last - only viola, in the others, two or three instruments can be heard. Each time the set of instruments is different. The piece forms a kind of an epitaph dedicated to the memory of my Father, who died in 1984.
