In 1951 Lutosławski writes Silesian Triptych in which he uses folk texts and the melodies allusively resemble their folk originals. Like in Little Suite, this composition, being masterly in its own kind, though a simple stylisation of Polish folklore, turned out to be a fulfilment of the dreams of the socialist authorities on the ideal of Polish Socialist-realism. Talent and very good technique allowed Lutosławski to create real gems in the domain of the semi-popular music which are rewarding not only for listeners, but also for performers. Looking at these works from the perspective of Lutosławski's portfolio it is evident that they weren't exceptions but links in the long-standing evolution of the composer's musical language. This experience, which he got while working on them, served him during writing Concerto for Orchestra whose first sketches appeared as early as 1950. [Krzysztof Meyer]
