Andrzej Cwojdziński

Andrzej Cwojdziński, born on 25 January 1928 in Jaworzno near Chrzanów, Polish conductor and composer. In the years 1947-1953 he studied at the PWSM in Krakow under the direction of A. Malawski. He began his musical activity as conductor of the Krakow Philharmonic Choir. From 1955-1957 he was assistant conductor of the Łódź Philharmonic, then became Director, Conductor and Artistic Director of the Philharmonic in Lublin, a position which he held until 1963. From 1964 to 1979 he held a similar position in the Koszalin Philharmonic. Cwojdziński appeared as guest conductor in the USSR, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, Yugoslavia and Hungary. He also initiated and served as artistic director of the Polish Piano Festival in Słupsk (1967-1990) and the Kołobrzeg ‘Cello Evenings (1972-1980). For his artistic and organizational activities he was awarded the prize of the city of Lublin and the former Voivodeship of Koszalin. On several occasions he led the World Festival of Polish Choirs in Koszalin and the Koszalin Organ Concertos. Since 1976, Docent (Associate Professor), 1991-1999 Professor at the Music Academy in Gdańsk and the Pedagogical University in Słupsk. He received Minister of Culture and Arts award second degree (1977) and the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (1983).
