Aleksander Glinkowski

1941-1991

Aleksander Glinkowski, born on 4 April 1941 in Stiring-Wendel, France, died on 17 March 1991 in Katowice, Polish composer. In the years 1960-1964 he studied trombone with F. Kwiatkowski, in 1965-1970, composition with B. Szabelski at the PWSM in Katowice. 1972-1973 he continued his studies with I. Xenakis in Paris. From 1960-1972 he was a member of the Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra, from 1970 he worked as a lecturer in the PWSM in Katowice. He won several composition competitions. In 1968 he was awarded a distinction in the PCU Competition in Kamien Pomorski for the piece "Passacaglia lugubra" for organ (1968), in 1970 - second prize in the PCU Competition for "Ostinato" for mixed choir and tape (1970), in 1972 - third prize in the Arthur Malawski Competition in Krakow for the "Venetian Concerto" for oboe and orchestra (1972).
