Ferdinando Bertoni

1725-1813

Bertoni Ferdinando Gasparo, born 15 August 1725 in Salò (Brescia province), died on 1 December 1813 in Desenzano on Lake Garda, Italian composer. In the years 1744-1745 he studied music with G.B. Martini in Bologna, where in 1773 he was admitted to the Accademia Filarmonica. In 1745 he moved to Venice and from 1752 he was the first organist, and from 1785-1808 the first conductor, in the St Mark’s church. Simultaneously, from 1757 he served as Maestro di Coro at the Conservatorio dei Mendicanti. In the years 1778-1780 and 1781-1783 he presented his operas at the Haymarket Theatre in London. Bertoni is counted among the most important North Italian pre-classical composers.
