Mikołaj Piotr Górecki

Mikołaj Piotr Górecki


Was born in 1971. In 1995 he graduated with honours in composition from the Music Academy in Katowice under the direction of Henryk Mikołaj Górecki. In 1996, he received two scholarships from The Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada.


In 2000 he received a doctorate in composition from Indiana University, Bloomington in the United States. In 2001-2002 he lectured at McGill University in Montreal. He currently lives and works in the United States.


In 1988 he was awarded first prize at the first Competition for Young Composers in Bielsko-Biała and in 1994 - third prize at the second Forum of Young Composers in Krakow.


His works have been performed at home and abroad, including at the Lincoln Center, the A. Fisher Hall in New York, Montreal, Edmonton, De Ijsbreker Center in Amsterdam, during the ISCM World Music Days in Slovenia, at the Festival of Premieres in Katowice, the Musica Polonica Nova Festival in Wrocław. His works have been performed by Kaja Danczowska, Jadwiga Kotnowska, Agnieszka Duczmal, Gabriel Chmura, Ewa Pobłocka, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Tomasz Strahl, Marek Moś, National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, the "Amadeus" Chamber Orchestra, the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra in New York, Aukso Orchestra and Sinfonia Varsovia, among others.
