Concerto in F-minor
for Piano and String Quintet
The principal objective of these versions of the two Chopin Piano Concertos was to create a suitable reduction of the full orchestral score which accommodates the particular requirements of a small ensemble while remaining as close as possible to the original, a task which is long overdue and yet which is hardly attainable, due to the lack of reliable source material.
In attempting to reconstruct a workable chamber version of the concertos which would as closely resemble an urtext as possible, we are greatly indebted to the scholarship of Professors Jan Ekier and Paweł Kamiński whose Historical and Concert versions of the concertos are indispensible.
