The "Dziennik ucha. Słuchane na ostro" (The Diary of the Ear. Sharp Listening) book is a collection of essays and reviews by Andrzej Chłopecki who used to write for "Res Publica Nova" and "Gazeta Wyborcza" magazines.

Andrzej Chłopecki (1950–2012) - a renowned music critic, expert in contemporary music and promoter of Polish music. In his insightful judgements and uncompromising diagnoses, he has shown an unsurpassed example of courage supported by thorough knowledge and ingenious intuition. Since the late 1970s, he used to work for the Polish Radio. He was not only its charismatic voice, but also tried to shape it as a cultural institution according to European standards of a public radio. With similar verve he would create the music life as a director of the Velvet Curtain and Musica Polonica Nova festivals and member of the Warsaw Autumn Programme Committee. He ispired composers: "he composed their composing", effectively encouraging music institutions to execute music orders, and writing the history of music of the most recent decades.

He was a master of word, an author of hundreds of texts (e.g. "Tygodnik Powszechny", "Ruch Muzyczny", "Odra", "MusikTexte"). But it was only in essays collected in the Diary of the Ear ("Res Publica Nowa") and Sharp Listening ("Gazeta Wyborcza") cycles that his writing talent could develop in full. In these short and brilliant texts, which can be compared to the work of Mycielski, Kisielewski or Weber, the ad hoc assessments always evolve into broader reflection, humour is seasoned with melancholy and the author's unique individuality is mirrored in the words. A mirror of music life - yes, but framed by Chłopecki's personality.
