Sinfonie / Symphonies, GA/CE A2
(Symphony No. 3 'Song of the Night' for Tenor Solo, Mixed Choir and Orchestra Op. 27; Symphony-Concertante for Piano and Orchestra Op. 60)
The Third Symphony is a composition between a symphony and a cantata. Researchers have detected Mahlerian symphonic models in it. The composer included vocal parts amongst his powerful forces, using the words of an Oriental poet Mewlana Djalaluddin Rumi. The Fourth Symphony was meant to be performed by the composer himself at concerts. Thus it is no accident that it is scored for piano and orchestra. Owing to its three-movement structure it is closer to a concerto than a symphony.
