Sonata in A minor
for Violin and Piano
A work whose date of origin is unknown. It should be counted among Noskowskis more ambitious works. It is a tripartite late romantic sonata witch distinct classicizing features, such as are present in nearly all the European chamber music of that time. Sonata is characterised by the versality of emotional expression in combination with some restraint in the manifestation of feeling and also the perfect balancing of the two instrumental parts, which are difficult, in places brilliant, but wholly involved in the realisation of the expressive and formal shape of the composition. This edition of Zygmunt Noskowskis Sonata which has remained for more than a hundred years in manuscript, is designed to bring this interesting music closer to its potential performers and listeners, and to supplement the chamber repertory still scarcely represented in Polish musical literature.
