Songs and polonaises
Vol. 2
We are honoured to present another volume in the Complete Works of Jan Stefani series, comprising songs for voice with accompaniment and polonaises for harpsichord or pianoforte. A vast majority of them are salon works, which were written perhaps for music lovers, planned for dancing and performing at home. This edition also contains fragments of polonaises
for a more elaborate ensemble. These could have been performed during major celebrations or in a theatre during concerts and plays. In 2016, the author of this critical edition published the work titled Twórczość polonezowa Jana Stefaniego (‘Jan Stefani’s polonaises’). It was a result of the ‘Muzyczne białe plamy’ (‘Musical Gaps’) grant funded by the Institute of Music and Dance (currently National Institute of Music and Dance) in 2015.
This edition has been expanded in relation to the previous work: not only have we added songs, but also partly preserved and recently found polonaises. Besides, the publications differ in terms of the editing method.
