Władysław Żeleński - "Moniuszko's successor" and "the most outstanding Polish singer among the representatives of the conservative trend in the second half of the 19th century", an outstanding lyricist - deserved these descriptions, composing about a hundred songs for solo voice and piano over a period of over sixty years - from the late 1850s to the beginning of the second decade of the 20th century.
In the minds of his contemporaries, Żeleński was, above all, a singer.
The vast majority of the songs composed by Żeleński have survived - ninety-two completed works, all but one published.

Therefore, it is right to make an effort now, on the 100th anniversary of Żeleński's death, not only to recall his figure and popularize his achievements, but also to consolidate his work and pass it on to Polish society at least as a valuable cultural testimony, since at the time it could not fully play
his role.
