Roman Maciejewski is known today mainly as the composer of the monumental ''Requiem'', and his output, especially his piano music, including c. 60 mazurkas written up to his death, constitutes an important link in Polish music.
The piano ''Triptych'' was written in 1932, during the composer's studies with Kazimierz Sikorski in Warsaw. It consists of ''Preludium'' (Allegro), ''Intermezzo'' (Adagio) and ''Fugue'' (Allegro ma non troppo).
