'Astor Piazzolla: A Memoir' Audio Book of the Year 2008

2009-05-11
The list of books to receive awards in the Audio Book of 2008 competition is now known. In the category of ‘Non-fiction and Commentary’ our publication ‘Astor Piazzolla. Moja historia’ [Astor Piazzolla: A Memoir] by Natalio Gorin has been awarded.

The formal announcement of the results took place during a gala celebration on 11 May 2009 in the Prymasowski Palace in Warsaw. The organizers of the competition are Nexto.pl, the biggest distributor of audio books and Biblioteka Analiz, a market research company specialised in publishing.

A total of 6 prizes were awarded for the best titles that received the most votes in each of six thematic categories. PWM’s audiobook ‘Astor Piazzolla. Moja historia’ [Astor Piazzolla: A Memoir] - excerpts from the famous tango master’s autobiography - read by Waldemar Malicki, was awarded in the category of ‘Non-fiction and Commentary’.

The first edition of the competition was received with great interest by publishers, the media and all those interested in audio books in Poland. Production companies participating in the competition included amongst others: Agora S.A., Muza S.A., Znak, Bellona S.A., Harbor Point Sp. z o.o. (Media Rodzina), Audioclub.pl sp. z o.o., Biblioteka Akustyczna, Promatek Audio or Złote Myśli Sp. z o.o.  Both nominations and prize-winners are known and bestseller adaptations of Polish and world literature from recent years. The array of narrators who took part in their implementation is also impressive. The readers of nominated audiobooks include such famous names as: Marek Kondrat, Tadeusz Sznuk, Jerzy Stuhr, Jan Englert, Jerzy Trela, Piotr Fronczewski and Krystyna Czubówna. On the other hand, in addition to those bestsellers on the nominations and prize list, are less popular titles published by smaller houses. These also are distinguished by their quality of production, the high level of literary merit, and consequently are deserving of the public’s attention. This gives us all the more pleasure that PWM’s first audiobook received such widespread recognition.
