PWM przenosi się na Wiejską

PWM Edition is entering the execution phase of the revitalisation of its Warsaw department. With the commencement of the renovation and the implementation of the assumptions of the architectural design, the Hire Department and the editorial office of “Ruch Muzyczny” are moving to a temporary headquarters at 19 Wiejska Street, Warsaw.

The building at 8 Fredy Street, where the Hire Department of PWM Edition and “Ruch Muzyczny” are located, has a rich and colourful history. The building of the former Bank Dyskontowy from 1897, designed by Kazimierz Loewe, has been listed in the register of monuments since 1965. The publishing house has taken steps to invite artists and music lovers to its headquarters – thanks to the implemented plans related to the modernisation and increasing the functionality of the building, the PWM Edition’s headquarters will become an important place on the cultural map of Warsaw.

For the time of the renovation, which is planned until the end of 2024, both the PWM Edition’s Hire Department and the editorial office of “Ruch Muzyczny” will operate in a temporary headquarters at 19 Wiejska Street in Warsaw. The Karski tenement house located at this address also boasts a significant history: it was inhabited by Jerzy Żurawlew – a composer, pianist and initiator of the International Chopin Piano Competition; and Professor Stanisław Szober, an outstanding linguist. For some time, the building was also the seat of the State Secondary Music School No. 3. PWM Edition overwrites its history, moving to it together with rich archival collections and performance materials for over 3,500 catalogued orchestral works.

Moving: what you need to know

Due to the activities related to the relocation of the Department, there may be difficulties in fulfilling orders for orchestral materials until August 30th. The return of materials will be possible after August 20th – parcels that reach the Hire Department before this date will be sent back to the sender. It is worth noting that the later return of materials will not be associated with a fee for a longer rental.

Returns should be sent to the following address: Hire Department of PWM Edition, 19 Wiejska Street, 00-480 Warsaw, Poland.

All materials, books and CD publications for review should be sent to the new, temporary address of the editorial office: “Ruch Muzyczny”, 19 Wiejska Street, 00-480 Warsaw, Poland.

New is coming: the renovation of 8 Fredry Street – it’s time to start

#Fredry8 will be a modern and open cultural space on the map of Poland. In the modernised headquarters of PWM Edition at 8 Fredry Street, there will be a small concert hall, a jazz club, a music bookstore, a media library, a recording studio and workshop rooms. The rich resources managed by the Hire Department will be properly safeguarded. The editorial office of “Ruch Muzyczny,” the oldest music magazine in Poland, published by PWM Edition, will also reside at 8 Fredry Street.

The general contractor of the architectural design is EBS-BUD company. Completion of the investment is planned for the end of 2024. The main initiator and organiser of the project is PWM Edition. The investment will be financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the state budget.

IL TEMPO PASSA. The first monographic album by Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa

Time passes constantly, changing the world and its soundscape around us. The title IL TEMPO PASSA may be both a reflection on the impermanence of life, world and things and a piece of advice to enjoy the moment. The latest album by ANAKLASIS presents Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa’s cameral and symphonic works from recent years. Premiere on 28 May 2024, on the composer’s 75th birthday.

THE TALE OF THE HEART. FAVOLA IN MUSICA: a joint project by Aleksander Nowak and Radek Rak from ANAKLASIS on sale as of 6th October

It is a musical-literary tale about a quest for identity, truth, and for what makes us human. The new stage work by Aleksander Nowak – which is, at the same time, Radek Rak’s operatic debut – explores the sources of good and evil, fusing reality with mythology and steering towards ‘the left-hand side of the world’. The authors spin a tale about the dual human nature. THE TALE OF THE HEART. FAVOLA IN MUSICA – the album that presents their joint project – will go on sale on 6th October.

Różycki’s Adventures in Jazzland. The album INSPIRED BY LUDOMIR RÓŻYCKI from ANAKLASIS on sale as of 28th August

Spectacularly successful as Ludomir Różycki’s music was in his lifetime, it is seldom programmed nowadays. All the same, such remarkable art could hardly fall into utter oblivion. It has attracted and fascinated excellent jazz pianist Kuba Stankiewicz, who has translated it into the language of jazz. The effects have been recorded and released on ANAKLASIS label’s most recent album, INSPIRED BY LUDOMIR RÓŻYCKI, which goes on sale as of 28th August.

This is by no means a piece about the centuries-long Polish-German conflict. It is, instead, a tale of impossible love, of tragic conflict between personal happiness and the common good.

PWM Edition is the exclusive representative of the Ricordi publishing house in Poland

PWM Edition resumes cooperation with the Italian publishing house Ricordi, as well as with its international partners forming Universal Music Publishing Classics & Screen. This means that rentals of orchestral materials from the catalogues of all publishing houses belonging to Classics & Screen is carried out in Poland by Dział Zbiorów Nutowych (Sheet Music Department) of PWM.

The most fascinating phenomena in contemporary music; a wide range of genres; outstanding works, excellent composers and performers – are the trademarks of the record label ANAKLASIS, launched by PWM Edition. ANAKLASIS is now celebrating its third birthday. It continues to grow at a dizzying pace and maintains the high artistic standards of its releases.

When asked to attempt a definition of her music, she called it lyrical expressionism. The choice of this term says much about the emotional intensity of Elżbieta Sikora’s music, which may reflect the experience of her two home countries, Poland and France, but is also a consequence of her artistic maturation in an age when two powerful trends – the avant-garde and neo-Classicism – were vying for the palm. Such a label may also result from the artist’s focus on the listener as her target, whom she invariably attempts to surprise, shock, or bewilder.
