Mykietyn in "Wprost": "I feel a little bit like a freak"
2011-04-13
“Mykietyn has a position comparable with that won by Lutosławski, Penderecki and Górecki at the turn of the ‘50s and ‘60s,” says Antoni Wit in the article „Następca największych” („Wprost” 6 / 2011), about this composer, associated with PWM. “I have great distance to reality, I feel a little bit like a freak,” said Paweł Mykietyn about himself. For Jacek Hawryluk, journalist of Polish Radio 2, he is primarily a composer of an original sensitivity, “Mykietyn doesn’t stay in one place and constantly wants to discover something new. When he is interested in electronics, he goes deeply into it. If spectralism, he wants to figure it out,” he adds.Paweł Mykietyn is also the author of a number of musical accompaniments to theatrical pieces and films (most recently Skolimowski’s "Essential Killing"). Mykietyn’s creativity is becoming known and recognizable, not only in Poland but also abroad, and he is considered the successor to the great composers of the twentieth century such as Górecki and Lutosławski.

The theme of the 37th Krakow International Festival of Composers is music in music. Already in the 1970s, this issue was studied by the outstanding founder of the Krakow Theoretical School, Professor Mieczysław Tomaszewski. He reflected on the subject in an article entitled “At the Opening: why ‘music in music’”, which was published before one of the famous Music Meetings in Baranów.
The theme of Krzysztof Knittel’s work is refuge and the uncertainty and anxiety about the unknown associated with it, as well as the other side of this topic, i.e. the need to provide help and shelter. The text of the oratorio is based on a poem by Tadeusz Sławek. The piece features singing, recitations, choral parts and improvisations based on the traditions of the Middle East.
