2011-09-28
The Sound Factory Orchestra directed by Robert Kurdybacha have decided to honour the tenth anniversary of the famous composer’s death (1927-2001) with the project "Rescued from oblivion - Witold Szalonek and his sounds combined". The project was organised under the framework of the "Polish Presidency 2011" and included concerts combined with a multimedia presentation, prepared by artists from the Wrocław Academy of Fine Arts and CD recordings. The culmination of this project will be a concert on October 12 in Berlin on the anniversary of W. Szalonek’s death. In addition, more concerts will be held 16 and 18 October, 2011 in Görlitz (Zgorzelec) and Wrocław as part of the project. Musicians will perform "Pastorale" for oboe and orchestra, "Connections" for chamber orchestra, "Mutazioni" for orchestra and "L'hautbois mon amour" for oboe , strings, two harps and percussion.“I am anxious to popularize Szalonek’s work,” says the conductor and originator of the project, Robert Kurdybacha. “Even if it is popularity from the scene, it's important that people will reach for the disc. The prestige of the entire project is helped by the fact that we will organise a concert in Berlin, and Szalonek was associated with the local Hochschule der Künste. Additionally, the Polish Presidency under which we are realizing the entire project is working magic.”
The avant-garde orchestra of the Wrocław Academy of Music, Sound Factory Orchestra, was established in 2009. The ensemble spent its first few months preparing for concert activity, with a series of rehearsals and workshops concerning contemporary techniques of interpretation and performance in the field of new music. In May 2010 it began its concert activity.
The project is co-funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Foundation for Polish – German Collaboration. The project partners are: Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne S.A., Europäische Oboen-Schule and Andreas Behrendt - artistic director of Festival 'Lehniner-Sommermusiken'.

The manuscript is gaining new life now, thanks to a performance edition by Agnieszka Budzińska-Bennett and Marc Lewon. “Krasiński Codex” has just been published by PWM Edition with the support of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
