Works of Tadeusz Wielecki in PWM Edition Catalogue

The great Polish composer Tadeusz Wielecki resumes collaboration with PWM Edition. Soon we will release his “Time of Stones” for amplified double bass and chamber orchestra. Born in 1954 in Warsaw, Wielecki was trained as a composer and a double-bass player. He studied composition with Włodzimierz Kotoński, Isang Yun and Klaus Huber. He also participated in the New Music Courses in Darmstadt presenting recitals of music for double-bass including his own works and pieces composed by him by other Polish composers. As a double bass player he mainly performs a contemporary solo repertoire (numerous recordings made for radio and TV). He is involved in the activities of the Polish Society for Contemporary Music; in 1992, he served on the program committee of the ISCM World Music Days organized by the PSCM in Poland (with Lidia Zielińska, Zygmunt Krauze). Wielecki initiated and run the plebiscite of "Contemporary Music Hits;" he organized school concerts and radio programs for the youth. In September 1992 he gave concerts at the Soundcelebration 11 festival in Louisville (USA), where he conducted master classes in double bass.

Wielecki has given concerts in many European countries, Japan, and United States. Extremly active in Polish musical life, he is involved with the promotion and production of contemporary music on Polish Radio, and in 1992 chaired the Artistic Committee of World Music Days in Warsaw. In 2004 he was guest lecturer at the International Summer Courses for New Music at Darmstadt.

Wielecki has received commissions form institutions end ensembles including Polish Radio, Poznań Philharmonic, Klangspuren in Schwaz (Austria), De Ereprijs, Ensemble Courage and City of Darmstadt, Klangforum Wien, Hiroshima Symphony Association. Since 1999, Wielecki has served as the artistic director of the International Festival of Contemporary Music, Warsaw Autumn and through his educational campaign among students has been able to significantly increase attendance while preserving the uncompromising avant-garde programming.

Tangos from the library of oblivion – a new disc in the series REVISIONS from ANAKLASIS

A panorama of compositional output combining Polish and Yiddish inter-war hits with sorrowful, despairing tangos from the Ghetto. The disc Bajgelman. Get to Tango represents a twenty-first-century take on the output of the outstanding musician Dawid Bajgelman, from Łódź. These arrangements and reworkings of selected works by one of the greatest composers of Jewish theatre music were produced by the outstanding musician and composer Jarosław Bester. The album comes out on 11 December.
 

A year in Polish music in sixteen albums – ANAKLASIS celebrates its first birthday

The ANAKLASIS record label, created by PWM just one year ago (on 22 November 2019), already boasts sixteen albums, and it shows no signs of slowing down, with further releases announced. 
 

‘Music from Chopin’s Land’ – an international project of PWM Edition

PWM Edition has launched a campaign and an international educational project, which brings the works by Polish composers closer to the audiences worldwide. ‘Music from Chopin’s Land’ encompasses more than just pieces by Chopin – it also means Paderewski, Szymanowska, Moniuszko, Kilar, Kurpiński and many other composers.

The premiere of Aleksander Nowak’s opera 'Drach' named Event of the Year! The laureates of the Coryphaeus of Polish Music awards 2020 have been announced

On 7 November 2020, during a gala broadcast on TVP Kultura, the laureates of the 10th edition of the Coryphaeus of Polish Music awards were announced. The award for Event of the Year went to the premiere of Aleksander Nowak’s opera Drach. Dramma per musica, given at the AUKSODRONE festival. Aleksander Nowak’s work, to a libretto by Szczepan Twardoch based on his heralded novel, was rewarded for ‘emphasising local dimensions in universal processes, for the strength of its musical and cultural message’.

Winners of the Warsaw Wind Ensemble Competition Contest 2020 announced!

On 30 September, the call for applications for the International Composition Contest for Wind Orchestra Warsaw Wind Ensemble Composition Contest 2020 was closed. From almost 50 applications, the jury selected seven laureates and distinguished five compositions.

Warsaw Wind Ensemble Composition Contest 2020 begins

PWM Edition and Warsaw Wind Music Association invite to take part in the International Composition Contest for Wind Orchestra - Warsaw Wind Ensemble Composition Contest 2020. This is the first edition of the international competition for composers, the subject of which is to write a premiere composition for a concert wind orchestra.
