Agata Zubel's "Not I" With a Nomination to the Wrocław "Polonica Nova" Prize

Agata Zubel's composition, „Not I”, finds itself among 5 works which have been nominated for the Wrocław „Polonica Nova” Prize. We will find out which work is the winner on 12 April 2014.
The Wrocław "Polonica Nova" Prize is an initiative of the City of Wrocław and Polish Radio 2, prepared in close cooperation with the Wrocław Philharmonic with a mind to the Polish Contemporary Music Festival "Musica Polonica Nova". The prize will be awarded to the selected Polish composer for their best work, which has been premiered during the past two years, and which was written during the last five years. The expected prize fund is 100,000 zł funded by the Mayor of Wrocław, Rafał Dutkiewicz. The composer, whose work is recognised as the most interesting, will be required to write a new work for the next edition of the festival "Musica Polonica Nova".
In the first edition of the award 51 works composed by 45 composers were entered. One work was excluded from the assessment for formal reasons. 34 institutions decided upon delegation of their candidatures. The jury listened in total to 996 minutes of music. The committee was chaired by the Artistic Director of the "Musica Polonica Nova" Festival - Szymon Bywalec. In addition to him the committee included: Dorota Szwarcman (weekly „Polityka”), Bartek Chaciński (Program 2 and 3 of Polish Radio, Polityka), Marek Zwyrzykowski (Polish Radio 2), Pierre Jodlowski (composer) and Izabela Duchnowska (Department of Culture of the City Wrocław, secretary of the jury).
The jury has selected the following works for the final (in alphabetical order):

• Marcin Stańczyk – Sighs
• Artur Zagajewski – Stabat Mater
• Agata Zubel – Not I
The competition results will be announced during the final concert of the "Musica Polonica Nova" festival, which will take place on 12 April 2014 at 7pm in the Wrocław Philharmonic.

The 4CD album featuring songs and instrumental works by the Silesian master goes on sale as of 8 November. The Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw invites to the inaugural session of the biennial International Digital Musicology Conference, which will be held 23–25 October 2024, at the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw, Poland.
