10th anniversary of Marek Stachowski’s death.

Marek Stachowski, one of the most expressive composers, who belonged to Cracow School of Composition, died on 3 December, 2004.
On the 10th anniversary of his death, a Cracow music community organized the festival devoted to Marek Stachowski’s music. From 20th November till 1st December we could hear solo compositions, chamber music as well as compostions for string orchestra at concert halls in Cracow. Those great compositions were performed by notable performers such as: Kaja Danczowska, Dorota Imiełowska and Sinfonietta Cracovia.
Born on 21 March, 1936 in Piekary Śląskie the composer spent his adult life in Cracow. He obtained his elementary music education in that city. At The Academy of Music in Cracow (former National Higher School of Music) he was one of the most talented students of Krzysztof Penderecki, who was a fledgling teacher. His first attempts to write music in neoclassical style quickly turned into phenomenal sensory experiments. The scores of vocal and intrumental Neusis II from 1968 or orchestral Poème sonore from 1975 impressed with their radicalism, and at the same time with originality of colourful thinking. Later, he started searching for classical beauty in music. Very distinctive, almost mysterious and turbulent melody, as well as intriguing and very often impressionistic harmonics but also rhythmic spontaneity became domain of: the triptich Z księgi nocy (1990-2000), the composition for a vocal and instruments titled Ptaki (1976), and popular Sinfonietta for string orchestra (1998). Moreover, what is so fascinating about Marek Stachowski, is his feeling for a consort.
His string quartet or phenomenal Recitativo e preghiera for a cello and a piano (1999) attract artists and performers, as well as the audience. On the other hand, a wide range of cultural inspirations mark out countless tracks of nonmusical associations.
It is worth performing and listening to Marek Stachowski’s music.

The 4CD album featuring songs and instrumental works by the Silesian master goes on sale as of 8 November. Released by the ANAKLASIS music label, it will be premiered on 3 December during a special PWM Edition concert held as part of the 12th International Days of Henryk Mikołaj Górecki at the Silesian Philharmonic in Katowice.
The esteemed American-Canadian jazz musician Michael Bates, his Acrobat Ensemble and the Lutosławski Quartet will perform three concerts in Poland in November. The Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw invites to the inaugural session of the biennial International Digital Musicology Conference, which will be held 23–25 October 2024, at the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw, Poland. The conference focuses on the integration of digital technologies into musicological research, with a special emphasis on introducing digital tools and methods to the Polish academic community, where digital musicology has not yet been widely adopted.
