For You Anne-Lill
for Flute and Piano Op. 58
For You, Anne-Lill was composed with the Norwegian flutist Anne-Lill Ree in mind, whose play Górecki admired during his visit to Lerchenborg in 1984. With regard to the tempo of performance, sometimes reaching the heights of real madness (furioso) as well as the range of the scale, often exceeding the possibilities of the flutist, the piece sets high demands on the player. It is also an example of a chamber piece, in which the composer quite exceptionally treats the accompanying piano part. For we have to do here with the ''asynchronizing'' combination of the melodic line of the flute with the accompaniment of the piano, which - using rigid repetitions and ostinatos as a basis - is completely separated from the musical world of the soloist. One of the structural elements of the work is a descending major chord in second inversion. It is at the same time a characteristic feature of Henryk Mikołaj Górecki's compositional technique.
