Of Hope
for string quartet
I like to think of this little work as a letter to somebody close: on one hand personal, even intimate in expression; on the other, highly conventionalised in its form. Its sound is influenced by three composers: Wolfgang Rihm, with his rich string quartet output, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, post-1970s stylistic watershed, and British musician Matt Elliott, in his folk and electronic incarnations.
No complicated techniques. Just a handful of simple, heartfelt sounds.
