Pluviophilia

for marimba and piano

Pluviophilia (from the Latin pluvia, meaning ‘rain’, and phileo, ‘to like’) is a neologism signifying a fondness for rainy days. This work was written on a cloudy day in October. Its structure, form and scoring refer both to composers of the early period in Polish modernism (Grażyna Bacewicz, Tadeusz Zygfryd Kassern, Tadeusz Szeligowski) and to contemporary composers. The use of marimba with piano is aimed at generating the characteristic, percussive repetitiveness of raindrops striking a window pane.
