Cala
for Clarinet, Cello, Vibraphone, Accordion and Piano
In Spanish, the word cala means ‘cove’. I was directly inspired to write this composition by observing the ebb and flow of the waves, striking against the shore, appearing in a slightly different form each time.
Cala, veiled in an air of mystery and contemplation, does not have any distinct themes or segments. On the contrary, its elements merge smoothly with one another, and the instruments are all equally important, which gives each of the performers considerable scope for interpretation.
