Professor Marek Stachowski, composer, teacher, Rector of the Cracow Academy of Music, died in Cracow on Friday, 3 December 2004.
Professor Marek Stachowski, Rector of the Cracow Academy of Music, one of the leading Polish composers of the 20th century, an esteemed teacher and, above all, a wonderful and kind man, died in Cracow on Friday, 3 December, aged 68.
„In accordance with the well-known joke about Jack who wanted to win a lottery without buying a ticket, I have tried all my life to give a chance to events which could be realized. I was ten or twelve when, together with my cousins, we were thinking over what we would like to be in future. One was to be a physician, the other an architect and I was to become a director of ... a conservatory. My dream at that time had no chance of being fulfilled – although my family was musical, being a musician was not desirable, and the term „artist” had a pejorative undertone. In fact, that child’s dream has been fulfilled beyond expectations. So one should be able to dream and then, consistently, aim at the realization of the dream. If circumstances are favourable, it is possible to realize the dream, if not, one lives to the end having dreams, but is it not worthwhile having dreams? It is!”

The 4CD album featuring songs and instrumental works by the Silesian master goes on sale as of 8 November. The Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw invites to the inaugural session of the biennial International Digital Musicology Conference, which will be held 23–25 October 2024, at the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw, Poland.
