Agata Zubel's Aforyzmy na Miłosza at the 9th Sacrum Profanum Festival

At yesterday's concert for the Made in Poland - Milosz Sounds project, there was a premiere of the latest vocal-instrumental composition by Agata Zubel, Aforyzmy na Miłosza. The piece was commissioned by the organisers of the 9th Sacrum Profanum Festival to celebrate the Year of Czesław Miłosz, held to time with the one hundredth anniversary of the Master’s birth. The verbal layer of the composition forms some aphorisms in the form of five short passages of text drawn from various works by the Poet. The Aforyzmy are designed for solo soprano, string quintet, percussion, flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, trumpet and accordion. The nature of the next parts of the composition: Spojrzenie, Biegacz, Boleść, Otchłań, Płomień, Podszewka, Jeżeli, was ideally given through musical means. The piece has a concise, yet unconventional vocal part and a very interesting sounding instrumental layer, rich in quasi-sonorist sound effects, but closer to spectralism in places.The concert took place in the somewhat industrial interior of the Museum of Urban Engineering in Krakow. The solo part was performed by the composer herself accompanied by the excellent ensemble, Klangforum Wien, conducted by Clement Power. Agata Zubel showed once again that in addition to her undoubted talent as a composer, she also has a great voice, and is highly skilled in contemporary performance techniques.

The 4CD album featuring songs and instrumental works by the Silesian master goes on sale as of 8 November. Released by the ANAKLASIS music label, it will be premiered on 3 December during a special PWM Edition concert held as part of the 12th International Days of Henryk Mikołaj Górecki at the Silesian Philharmonic in Katowice.
The esteemed American-Canadian jazz musician Michael Bates, his Acrobat Ensemble and the Lutosławski Quartet will perform three concerts in Poland in November. The repertoire will include material recorded by the musicians on the album METAMORPHOSES: VARIATIONS ON LUTOSŁAWSKI, released by ANAKLASIS in the REVISIONS series.

The Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw invites to the inaugural session of the biennial International Digital Musicology Conference, which will be held 23–25 October 2024, at the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw, Poland.
