XIX Bydgoszcz Opera Festival
2012-04-18
Between April 28 and May 13, 2012 the XIX Bydgoszcz Opera Festival will be held. Music lovers will be able to enjoy the operas: "Rusalka" by A. Dvorak, Piotr Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin", "Prince Igor" by Alexander Borodin and "Madame Curie" by Elżbieta Sikora. The latter will be performed May 1 at 7pm by artists of the Baltic Opera. In addition, the festival will include I. Stravinsky's ballet "The Rite of Spring", the musical "Wonderful Town" by L. Bernstein, and also include a gala of Baroque opera stars.
The organizers wrote about the preparations for the spectacular opening of the Festival on their website, “A BRIDGE came to the Opera Nova in three giant lorries... Actually a replica of the Gdańsk Bridge span in Bydgoszcz, (in memory of the writer Jerzy Sulima-Kamiński, and which bears his name today). This will be the main element of scenery for the upcoming premiere of Antonin Dvorak's opera , "Rusalka." Currently work continues on the crowning balustrade with its fine secessionist floral motif. In addition, it will also be supported by pensive Atlas ... The bridge was made in Lubin and brought from Silesia by the company "DekoBau", who are already working with the Bydgoszcz Opera for the fourth time in creating decorations (stage props for "La Boheme", the ramp up to "The Captive Mind", and a big tent to the "Gypsy Baron"). There will be no lack of other elements of scenery recognizable for Bydgoszcz residents, relating to the theme of water.”

The theme of the 37th Krakow International Festival of Composers is music in music. Already in the 1970s, this issue was studied by the outstanding founder of the Krakow Theoretical School, Professor Mieczysław Tomaszewski. He reflected on the subject in an article entitled “At the Opening: why ‘music in music’”, which was published before one of the famous Music Meetings in Baranów.
