Polish Icons 2. Lutosławski at the Sacrum Profanum Festival
2013-09-09
The eleventh edition of the Sacrum Profanum festival will take place in Krakow between the dates 15-22 September. It will be crowned with the next stage of the Polish Icons project, whose hero this year is Witold Lutosławski. As Filip Berkowicz, artistic director of the festival, says, "When we inaugurated the Polish Icons project last year at Sacrum Profanum we did not expect such a positive response from the public. It was then that on one stage the Kronos Quartet met with the duet Skalpel, reactivated after years, as well as other creative artists, Ninja Tune, presenting an unusual arrangement of Penderecki, Lutosławski, Kilar and Górecki. This year - the Year of Witold Lutosławski – we decided to continue the cycle and present performers from the electronic scene two of his works: the Funeral Music and Preludes and Fugue. Our invitation was accepted by Clark, Oneohtrix Point Never, Mira Calix, Emika and Skalpel. We will get to know the results of their adventure with music celebrating the 100th anniversary of the composer's birth, as well as meeting the AUKSO Orchestra under the baton of Marek Moś in the Polish Icons 2. Lutosławski project."

The theme of the 37th Krakow International Festival of Composers is music in music. Already in the 1970s, this issue was studied by the outstanding founder of the Krakow Theoretical School, Professor Mieczysław Tomaszewski. He reflected on the subject in an article entitled “At the Opening: why ‘music in music’”, which was published before one of the famous Music Meetings in Baranów.
