ca 1658-1699

Stachowicz Damian, actually Jan Stachowicz, * 23 June, 1658 Sokołów (near Przemyśl), † 27 November, 1699 Łowicz, Polish composer. 1674 he joined the Piarists (religious name: Father Damien of the Holy Trinity). He was educated in the field of poetics, rhetoric, music and philosophy; whilst continuing his studies he taught in Piarist colleges in Podoliniec (1675/1676), Prievidza (from 1678) and Warsaw (1681-1691). From 1682 he served as a teacher and choir director in the Warsaw Collegium. He was ordained 21 December 1685. From 19 August, 1691 he was professor of rhetoric at the Piarist college in Łowicz, and from 1697 to 1698 the prefect of the college and professor of philosophy. He was a well-known composer in his time. His works were performed in Łowicz, Wieluń, Raków, Wąchock, Brest, presumably in Warsaw, and in Piarist monastic centres in today's Slovakia, in Prievidza and Podoliniec.
