Józef Rychlik

Rychlik Józef Henryk, born 12 V 1946, Kraków, Polish composer and music theorist. In the years 1965 to 1970 he studied composition and music theory at the PWSM in Kraków with B. Schaeffer; in 1978 he had a scholarship from the French Government in Paris (Groupe de Recherches Musicales and IRCAM); he co-founded the Słowacki Spatial Theatre Music Studio in Kraków, where in the years 1991 to 1998 he directed the Department of Music and Sound Implementation; for many years he collaborated with the Studio of Animated Films in Kraków; from 1976 to 1979 he taught courses in electronic music at the Young Musicians for the Young City festival in Stalowa Wola. Since 1972 he lectures at the PWSM (now the Academy of Music) in Kraków, from 2002 as Professor. He is the winner of second prize in the Youth Competition of the Polish Composers’ Union (1971) for "Sekwencje przestrzenne", the third prize at the International Composition Competition for an Organ Work (Szczecin 1973) for "Grave (asocjacje poetyckie)", a distinction at the Seventh International Concours de Musique Electroacoustique in Bourges, France (1979) for "Podtytuł — Sen Eurydyki" and awards for his music for films: "Automobil" at the Festival of Films for Children in Poznań (1988) and "Metamorfozy" at the International Short Film Festival in Kraków (1989). He is the hero of a documentary film by J. Ridan "Józef Rychlik — kompozytor" (1993).
