Jerzy Kolasiński

Jerzy Kolasiński

1906-1981

Jerzy Kolasiński, born on 20 February 1906 in Pilica, died on 9 January 1981 in Warsaw, was a Polish pedagogue, organiser of musical events, and a composer. From 1926 to 1930, he studied under P. Rytel and S. Kazuro at the teaching department of Warsaw Conservatory. Before 1939, he was teaching theoretical subjects at Gdańsk Conservatory. Over the period 1947-1949, he was teaching at the State Secondary School of Music in Lublin, and from 1951 to 1953 at the Stanisław Moniuszko State School of Music in Warsaw. Between 1949 and 1951, he was the chief of the music education department of the Ministry of Culture and Art. Kolasiński combined his work as a teacher with musical journalism and an organisation of music institutions. He wrote a methodology textbook on music education, intended for the teachers at comprehensive schools (Zespoły instrumentalne [Instrumental Ensembles], Warszawa 1972). Kolasiński’s compositions are mainly educational – they include orchestral, chamber and piano pieces, as well as solo songs an choir works.
