Tadeusz Wojciech Maklakiewicz

1922-1996

Maklakiewicz Tadeusz Wojciech nickname Saganek, born 20 X 1922 Mszczonów, died 21 March 1996 Warsaw, Polish composer, pedagogue, music animator and lawyer, the brother of Franciszek and Jan Adam Maklakiewicz. In 1945-49 he studied law at the Jagiellonian University, from 1954 to 1958 composition at the PWSM in Warsaw (in the class of T. Szeligowski). From 1945 to 1947 he worked in PWM in Kraków, from 1950 to 1954 in the concert agency ARTOS, in 1959-62 at the Centralna Poradnia Amatorskiego Ruchu Artystycznego (Central Advisory for the Amateur Artistic Movement), and in 1963 for Polish Radio in Warsaw. He was associated with the Warsaw Academy for over 40 years: from 1950 to 1954 as administrative director, from 1963 to 1993 as a teacher of the Faculty of Music Education. He specialized in theoretical subjects (harmony, counterpoint, propaedeutics of composition). In the PWSM (now the Academy of Music) he held managerial positions: from 1968-69, Dean, during the years 1973-1978 and 1991-1993 Head of the Department of Music Education, Vice-Rector in 1969-72 and from 1975 to 1978 Rector. In the years 1968-1971 and 1993 -1996 he was President of ZAiKS and Vice-President from 1971 to 1984. From 1985 Chairman of the Board of the Authors' Agency, 1975-1978 chairman of the music section of the Council of Higher Education in the Arts; In the years 1982 to 1983 Secretary General of the board of the Polish Association of Choirs and Orchestras, member of the presidium of the Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Vice-Chair of the Board of the Polish section of the Société Européenne de Culture. For 15 years he was the chairman of the jury for the Soldiers’ Song Festival in Kołobrzeg, juror of the International Song Festival in Sopot and Soviet Song Festival in Zielona Góra. Honours: 1977 - Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta; 1986 - Medal of National Education. Awards: 1972, 1977, 1990 – 1st Degree of the Ministry of Culture and Arts; 1970 - III Degree from the Ministry of National Defence; 1959 - the prize at the Organisation Internationale de Radiodiffusion et Télévision competition.
